Blogzample

Apparently I've taken to combining words...Kinderventures, blogzample. I suppose its natural this day in age when couples are commonly referred to by their combined names. Think about it... Brangelina, Bennifer. I've just dated myself with Bennifer haven't I.

Blimey.

None the less, I think its ironic that for a blog, which is to be devoted to my adventures in the educational system, I've decided to make up words.

I'm gonna be a SUPER teacher. I plan to learn these kids good! I'll call it gearning (aka good-learning). Excellent.

The first few months of Kindergarten has been an adventure. Hence the title of this blog. I love my kids. They are equal parts awesome and gray hair provoking. I'm learning to manage better with each day, but I think I lost about a month of sleep in the beginning. Now I find myself making up for it by falling asleep everywhere. In the tub. In movie theaters. In my dinner plate.

Between lesson plans and actually completing the homework for my classes, I think I live in front of my computer. No, seriously. I have accumulated a collection of coffee cups which never seem to make it back downstairs. I know what day it is by how many cups are in front of me.

I have also stopped paying attention to my dietary needs. Last night, I had a bag of Cheese Puffs for dinner. Let me rephrase...last night I had 3/4 of a bag of Cheese Puffs. My cat ate the rest when I fell asleep with them on my chest.

I have also learned that as a teacher that you learn to live without water. Water for a teacher is like kryptonite to Superman. You don't have bathroom breaks. You learn to do without.

So after a month and a half of teaching I'm a graying, caffeine addicted, dehydrated fatty. You'll know me by the coffee stain on my shirt and orange cheese crust on my face.

This is gonna be quite a year.

  1. Dearest Animaniac;

    I have a strong feeling that your blog entry resonates with many other teachers and students of education.

    My advice: eat healthier and drink water. Make friends with the teacher next door so you can take a quick bathroom break while he/she keeps an eye on your class. Either embrace the gray or buy a bottle of Clairol (I prefer the latter).

    Your personality shines through in this blog entry. How do you feel about teachers sharing their personalities with their students? Should they use humor? I'm interested to hear your opinions.

  4. Hi Anna.
    I just read your entries now after doing math homework and it really woke me up with a chuckle. It is funny how even if I didn't know you were the author, I could guess it.

    We all have our own writing styles and yours reflects who you are, in person. Your writing is you and that is what is nice about writing from a computer; you can only be judged on what the invisible you writes. Which leads me to a thought...a blog can definitely help the person inside the body, get out. Anyone, especially a physically or mentally challenged person can overcome stigma through a blog. I recognize your writing as funny and interesting and intellectual....and it belongs to you, but I don't need to see the person to appreciate the humor and comments. A person can break free of stereotypes and still be themselves by using a blog. I would be willing to bet that there are more hypocrites out there than not, who if they met the writers of blogs they follow that they would never have given them a minute of time. A virtual world really does bring people closer together and knocks down some of those walls.

    I recognize you on-line for who you are without having to see you in person with the coffee stains and all :-)
